Build or buy a stand so that it tilts towards you. My dad made some for all his office equipment.

Besides the angle, try your lighting. Several desk phones have an angle lift that is on the bottom of the phone and is often overlooked. Also see if your display can be brightened.
Sometimes thenohines have a contrast setting tonsee the letters darker for you. Good luck.
