Hello Bjg, hope this helps you. To stop geckos from pooping on your steps, you need to remove the food and shelter attracting them there and use strong natural or commercial deterrents to keep them away from the area.

    1. Remove What Attracts Them

    1. Turn off or dim outdoor lights: Porch and entry lights draw in moths, flies, and other insects at night, which creates a primary feeding buffet for geckos.
    2. Clear nearby cover: Trim back bushes, tall grass, or woodpiles touching or near your steps, as geckos use these areas to hide.
    3. Eliminate standing water: Make sure gutters, pots, or puddles near the front or back steps are drained.

    2. Apply Repellents to Your Steps

    1. Pepper and hot sauce sprays: Mix hot pepper juice or cayenne pepper powder with water (and a drop of dish soap or cooking oil to help it stick) and spray it directly along your steps, railings, and walls. The capsaicin irritates them.
    2. Essential oils: Geckos dislike strong herbal scents. Spray a mixture of peppermint oil, cinnamon oil, or castor oil (such as ready-made outdoor sprays like Colton's Naturals) around your entryways.
    3. Strong kitchen odors: Rubbing or placing crushed garlic cloves, sliced onions, or a splash of vinegar around the perimeter of the steps can discourage them from hanging out there.
    4. Eggshells: Place whole halves of eggshells near the corners of your steps (and replace them every 3 to 4 weeks); geckos mistake them for the presence of a predator.

    3. Clean and Maintain

    1. Hose down the area: Regularly wash the steps with soapy water or vinegar to clean away existing gecko droppings and the scent markers they use to return to the same spot
