My personal preference is a dual rod. I have drapes with sheers underneath. Best of both worlds. I can have the drapes open in winter with light coming in, yet still retain privacy and in the summer, close up to keep the heat out. The least expensive way is a curtain rod with curtain clips and use either flat sheets or drop cloths as curtains/drapes.
Hi Jen! I hear you because window coverings can get very pricey. Take a look at these ideas and see if anything appeals to you. Have a great New Year!

I use 2" faux wood blinds. Inside mount, order at Home Depot.
Without a picture, this is a “wide” question.
Bedroom window treatments must be room darkening and yet allow in filtered or screened light.
Thus vertical or horizontal blinds are to some peoples’ liking.
Some find blinds too “hard” for bedrooms and do sheers with drapes or curtains with a double rod.
The colors typically tie-in to the bedspread or carpet or paint. Too much contrast can make the room look smaller.
Personally, I use the sheers & over curtains with extra wide rods, to make my windows look wider.
Hello Jen,
Pretty Roller blind maybe - Shutters - Net curtain and simple Eyelet drapes......
Hi Jen, pick up an adjustable curtain rod from Walmart, likely the cheapest place to get one, or a tension rod for a shower curtain, you can even buy a shower curtain with a nice design on it and trim it shorter. Or find a design you like and use clip on curtain hooks to hang it.
If you want to keep it simple buy white roller shades from a dollar store. They are easy to install with just a screw driver, and they are easy to size. If you buy a twin flat sheet and cut it up the center you will have very little to alter. Use the top of the sheet as the bottom of your curtain because that is where the best hem is. On the cut edge fold it over about 1 inch twice. You can either sew the side or use heat activated tape to finish the edge. Now with the bottom of the sheet at the rod figure out how much you need to fold over to create the header and rod pocket. Again you can sew this rod pocket or use the heat activated tape. Hang your new curtains so that the cut and hemmed edges are in the center. The outside edge of the sheet may not have a hem so it will look better if your hemmed edges are in the center showing.
