Merry Christmas on a Budget!

While the Euro/Dollar rate has gotten better, it's still more expensive in Europe. Plus, there are not as many discount stores. We were able to put together what we hope is a Christmasy home with discount decorations, scrap wood, paint and GLITTER! :-)
We made the fireplace over the summer. Since building the fire place and getting the garage sale ottoman, our color scheme changed a bit which changed our color scheme for Christmas. We made a cheap and easy fix to blend the Christmas tree decor by wrapping a $10 roll of white deco mesh around the tree.
The stockings were cheap but the wrong color I chalk painted the bright red trim. Yes, chalk paint really does work on anything, really anything! The houses were bought at a discount store but all were a different shade of white. I kept the most expensive ones as is and painted the others. My son painted them with mod podge and sprinkled glass glitter and snow on them. The wall hanging was made from free pallet boards and the deer head was a bit of an extravagance, I ordered from France. Hobby Lobby carries a fairly inexpensive deer head.
Poinsettias on 75% marked down log planters turned upside down.
Advent calendar using white paper sandwich bags.
Barn door was free, a garbage find.
Sign made from free scrap dumpster wood and a cricut.
Sign made from a cricut and scrap wood. Santas and Trees painted and glittered black to go with the black metal Christmas sign that was on sale.
Made the planter box which doubles for Thanksgiving...one side says, "Gather here and give thanks" flipped around for Christmas.
Made the USA sign from free pallet boards. Coffee Table is a garage sale find and the TV cabinet made from an IKEA dresser.
Flowers Sign in the background made from paper mache' letters and scrap wood. Mirror was broken from the top of a dresser and the buffet is a German school desk found at a garage sale. Ottoman, garage sale find. Sofas are IKEA and from the scratch and dent section.
Sofa table made from plumbing pipe and scrap wood.

I keep coming back to check and see what new posts you've put on Hometalk! I absolutely love how you've decorated your home and most of it done on the 'cheap' (without it looking 'cheap' in any way - it's stunning!) Have a wonderful holiday season and all the very best for 2016!
