No more bragging about beautiful sunny Florida. Today at 7:30 am it was 29 degrees
farenheit - not celsius. Poor tourists will be very displeased. Plants, birds, fish & me are not happy.

Here in Utah, our tourists aren't happy because there's not much snow. Usually we have lots and it's cold. Now, no snow, and it's above average temps. go figure. Weird, huh?

The good news in Florida is temperatures are bound to bounce back to warmer sooner than later. Here in Georgia it is supposed to get up into the 40's today, much better than the 20's, for gardeners.

Forcast of 66 here in Grass Valley, N. Cal. Have to remember it is just the beginning of winter, still must be prepared for rain and snow. : (

Erica, sure it will bounce back to 90's but all of the plants here look horrible. Orchids are in the house but I only covered a few plants outside. My yard is too big to cover. I'm not sure the ones I covered are OK. It is too cold to check them. Judy V, did you have to tell me your temperature? Although I think 66 is very cold - today it sounds tropical.

we had 12 degrees today, coming to orlando soon, hope it warms up! wow!
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on Jan 04, 2012
KMS, you make me smile. Even though I am currently miserable. Roxanne - starting Friday it should be in the mid 70's but who knows what will happen after the weekend? You might want to wait till March.

We dodged a bullet at the beach. It was supposed to be in the upper 20s here as well, but when I got up at an unspeakably early hour to take my sister to the airport (for some reason she is leaving Florida to go ski in Montana) it was 34. I covered things but the hibiscus still didn't look happy when I checked on them, nor did the banana plant.
  • @Roxanne, I'm a transplant here to Orlando from Syracuse! 12 degrees? Must be having a heat wave there! Things are supposed to warm back up here to the mid-70s this weekend. But yeah, this morning took my breath away when I first stepped out. Guess I've been here too long in Florida. :)

will be there soon to visit my brother, can't wait to feel the sunshine...any suggestions on buying a home?
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on Jan 04, 2012
Find an honest real estate person to help you. You can also look at Zillow.com and many other places for information. Most important is to get a certified professional home inspector to show you things that you would never think of. I bought two rental properties & saved so much with this help. The cost is very little for what you can save. Many of us look at the pretty & can't see the bad. Now is a great time to buy.

Guess I shouldn't feel too bad I am a little North of Toronto, Ontario Canada and it is 20 with some snow.....Hope Fla warms up , we will be coming down sometime in Feb.....Everyone keep warm .....
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on Jan 04, 2012
Valery, are from North of Toronto, Canada or North of Debary, Florida as the city (Havana, FL) next to your name suggests?
  • 3po3 3po3 on Jan 04, 2012
It's gonna be 65 here tomorrow. Definitely T-shirt weather. Of course, I expect frigid temps to return soon enough.
  • Valery G J Valery G J on Jan 05, 2012
Sherrie S! I am from North of Toronto, Canada, but have a place in Havana Fl, which is where I will be going in Feb..

West Coast is 85 degrees...weird winter for us!
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on Jan 05, 2012
Kathy C & Steve G - I am so jealous. Colorado & Florida both have mid 60's today - Yikes! Valery, you might want to check out Colorado before visiting Florida. Who knows what will happen to Florida temperature by Feb? We may get snow.
  • Valery G J Valery G J on Jan 05, 2012
I would probably do that but my kids and grandchildren live in Fla.
  • Here in central Florida,we wrapped our exotic Lychee Nut trees and I added light bulbs but I am out of incandesent bulbs! So what do you think is the next best bulb to generate heat?
  • Sherrie S Sherrie S on Jan 05, 2012
Garden Rebel - Halogen (in the olden days) was the hottest bulb. But now that I answered you I want to also thank you for designing and providing the plants for my front yard. It needs little care, always looks nice and the 29 degree weather didn't bother any of the plants you suggested. Easy to maintain, too.
