all I can advise, is that you contact your town hall Find out who does the permits etc.,and try to talk to an architect. There are soo many rules and reglations, that you will likely be unaware of. I wanted to put a shed in my yard, and luckily, I happened to get the architect in charge of inspection. By the the time he was finished, with all the do's and don'ts I ended up not even wanting a shed. Where you live, maybe you do no have to jump though hoops, but if not do NOTHING before contacting your town hall. Good luck from Lynhurst.

Do you mean zoning as for a business, taxes, or decluttering/organizing?

@Darla it is weird how your post didn't show till after mine, when I responded. :) I too was thinking she meant organizing only.

Are you talking about codes and permits, or how to determine what goes where? If it is the former, I completely agree with @Cloggynanny , if it is the latter, there are great garage posts on this site is you do a search at the top. I'll see if I can find something for you.

What I mean by zoning garage for organization is, "what's the best way to organize his stuff such as tools, from her stuff of seasonal kitchen items, etc."

Click on the blue dots to expand. @Maggie22 the link I provided should help then. Have fun! :) In my cottage garage, I have the washer and dryer, so I put the kitchen and household stuff in the cabinets above them, and on the adjoining back wall. His stuff is in a couple of wall cabinets by the big garage door and on hooks, and in the attic. That way, he can easily access the lawnmower/ snowblower etc. The garbage cans/recycle bins are closer to the curb and his tools are closer to where he unloads the car, keeping my area cleaner. It also prevents him from lugging heavy items throughout the garage. Hope that helps.
