I had an old Ikea Step Stool sitting around looking uglier and more filthy by the day. This needed to be changed. I love when you buy plain and new Ikea furniture and you have that beautiful light and natural wood look but then you start using it daily in your house and it just starts looking a total mess. Stools are obviously the worst for it because if like me you use them as steps (I'm really short...) then the grime from your shoes eventually get the better or them.
Here it is... the before shot. The stool was looking disgusting and all of those stains I just couldn't get out. I would wipe, clean, spray but the drains had penetrated the wood. I have small kids and they somehow manage to make things even more dirty so I had no hope in getting this stool back to it's former glory. I had two choices. Chuck and get a new one or give old Betty here a good old makeover.
I love blue and coastal but I also love vintage and rustic. I want to incorporate a blend of it all in my house and make it flow. My go to colour is blue though and I find every time I had an item with a hint of blue in my house it just gives it that fresh and clean feeling I want in my home. Plus to me it's just such an inviting colour.
The other colour I chose to compliment it is called Pale powder. Such a pretty name right?! It's a white colour with a hint go blue in there. Both colours are divine and I was SO happy with the results.
Here she is. Some TLC really did make a world of a difference. Now she sits in my kitchen looking beautiful and like a statement piece as opposed to a gross price or furniture that needs to be thrown in the dump.
This taught me a big lesson. ANY old gross price of furniture can be made to look amazing with a good old !!

Kristin Guinn on Jan 20, 2016I love it!!! There are a lot of untreated wood items from Ikea that could be painted to better match your decor, plus they would look so much better!
