What type of tree is this?
Thanks for your help... P.S.. Could this possibly be a Cardinal flower??
Update: My Hometalk Friends I'm going to go with the idea that this could be a Willow tree. I took the entire plant in it's pot to a local horticulturist and he said that it was a Willow. I will update and keep you all posted.
Thank you all so much for your helpful input... :)

Antje on May 08, 2016I'm pretty sure it's not bamboo. Bamboo is a grass and you would see the shafts of each leaf running along down the grass stalk. The leaves of this plant seem to come directly from the branches without a 'shaft'. Another way to check is if you cut a branch or stem once the plant is a bit older. If it was bamboo it should be hollow (the young shoots probably aren't yet, or it's difficult to see). Initially I thought it might be a species of willow, but I'm not so sure after seeing in the close-up photo that they are ever so slightly serrated. There are hundreds of different willow species (as far as I'm aware), so could still be one, though. Does it grow really fast? Wait and see if it produces flowers, then it will be easier to tell. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Antje on May 09, 2016Yes, keep us posted, Vesty. You could also look around in your own or neighbours gardens or surrounding countryside if they have a plant with similar characteristics (bearing in mind that if it is a willow it might be a tall tree...).Helpful Reply
