DIY Pallet Garden Salad Bar

Great little salad bar idea I came up with using a pallet and plastic recycle containers I pulled out if the trash.
I seen about 20 of these recyle containers in the dumpster at work and decided I could surely use them some way. I took a pallet, removed the planks, and positioned them to support the bins. I used 2x4s for legs, at whatever height you want and secured with screws. I also used thompson sealer/stain on the wood. Now when a bin is done bearing leaves, I can remove it and insert a new bin. If you have extras to swap out, simply start new seeds a few weeks after the original bins start growing. This way you can have fresh salad all season long. I plant 2 to 3 plants per container.

Valerie on Jun 08, 2016I think this idea is absolutely brilliant - it is so practical on so many levels - raised bed, recycling (of wood and bins) - definitely well worth doing. Thanks for the inspiration!

Sue c. on Jun 16, 2016I agree with Valerie; a brilliant idea! and I will try to do my own. And having the ability to switch out bins is just plain thrifty and handy as all get out. Thanks Jeff for your creativity.
