When summer thunderstorms roll through, I am usually pretty good about moving the outdoor cushions and pillows into the garage before the rain turns to hail.
But last summer we got hit with an especially fast moving storm and when I tried to grab the cushions to move them to the garage, I got pelted with hail and I had to run back inside.
The hail stones weren't huge, but they came down with an incredible intensity for more than half and hour. When it finally stopped, I went out to assess the damage.
Since the cushions are a non-standard size and not easily replaced, I planned to have them professional reupholstered. That is, until I learned it was going to cost hundreds of dollars and take months for me to get them back.
Since my basic sewing skill weren't up the challenge, I came up with a no-sew solution. Best of all, it cost less than $30 and took only about an hour.
My DIY cushion covers have already experienced a few major rain storms, and they've held up great. I can even unpin the fabric from the cushions if I need to wash it, so I might be able to get away with this solutions for a few years.
