Did you know that gold leaf comes in a variety of different finishes, not just gold? It comes in various shades and type of gold, as well as silver and copper. Using gold leaf can really update any lamp base and make it look brand new.
While in the process of decorating our bedroom, I decided to transform this lamp base with gold leaf. Believe it or not, but this lamp had a black silk shade with gold silk lining when I purchased it on a great sale, but it had the silver metal base.
Most lamp bases are all glass, all metal or all wood. This one happened to be glass and metal and I didn't want to cover up the clear glass. So for me, the prep took longer than the actual gold leafing. Once the glass was covered with painters tape, I proceeded to apply the adhesive and then the gold leafing. Once everything is on and dried, then carefully remove the painters tape.
Doesn't this look much better!!
The finial was also covered with gold leaf.
The finished lamp.
Isn't the difference amazing!!
