Here's someone who seemed to have had rug-painting success!
Have you thought of doing a batik design with RIT dye and parrafin wax? You melt the wax (which you can buy cheaply @ any craft store or Walmart, Target, etc.) Melt it in an old double boiler your not planning on using, or I use a crock pot just for wax. Carefully draw on your design with whatever you feel comfortabe with, also depends on how detailed your getting, if your using fine lines a small tipped brush or even kabob stick, if its thicker a broad brush is better, remember its wax so its not going to clean off and be new again! Once done, let it dry completely. Because your rug is larger, I havent dyed that much at once, you will have to look at the box or the website for RIT to figure out the amount of dye needed. Mix it together (outside recommended), and put the rug into the dye. The areas you covered in wax are protected from wax so when your time is up, they will come out the color of the previous rug. There was a post i had found either here or on Pinterest doing this with something smaller, and I tried it with a tablecloth for a gift, it came out great! I wish my old phone didn't lose half my pictures!
Thank you
Recently I needed a runner for our guest room and couldn't find one that worked. I had some off-white carpet though, so I cut it to the size I needed, Used masking tape to cover what wasn't going to get painted. I used diluted craft paint and kept adding layers till the colors were what I wanted. I added smaller details with sharpee markers. I'm using my dumb phone...smart one had a nervous breakdown so the camera doesn't work, but it came out really nice. Whatever you decide, best to try on a sample you don't need...if that's possible. Save leftover paint for touch ups if needed later on.
Thats a great idea too!
