Hello, you can use colorful throw pillows, lamps, furniture etc... There are so many options out there and you can paint just about anything. Good luck!

Kathryn, if you can't paint your walls, then accessories are everything. You can add tons of color using pillows, throws, a large patterned rug, etc.

When you purchase your big items (ie. sofa, chairs), get a neutral, solid color. This will be your canvas. As the others have said, pillows, window treatments and other less expensive items will be the color in the room. You can change as often as you like without having to worry about expensive makeovers.

An indoor/outdoor area rug is the perfect 5x7 size to anchor the front legs of a sofa. Walmart usually has colorful ones in the garden furniture area. You can also frame pretty wrapping paper in your color scheme.

Check out Homereserve.com for apartment sofa. You have to put it together but it readily does up and down apartment steps and is very, very versatile. Then of course rugs, curtains, pillows and accessories. Check out 2nd hand shops for interesting "Stuff"

If you want an accent wall they do have removable wall paper.

The site below has removable wall/contact paper, if you want to accent one wall. You can also put fabric on your walls with modge podge and it will peel right off.
