I cannot attest that this will completely remove the blood stain, but I had a dog that threw up all the time (sigh) and Nature's Miracle was my go-to solultion. It says it is for blood also, I just never tried that. It's enzyme based, so for future issues, you'd try this before putting any other chemicals on. It isn't immediate because it basically eats the stain (enzyme on protein). I think they have expanded their line but the best one is the original (at one point I was buying the gallon size!) It's important to completely soak the stain, especially carpet because there's usually lots more in the pad than you can see on carpet; let it sit for a few minutes, blot it up. Then as it dries it finishes the cleaning.
Sorry about your cat but 22 years - you are blessed for such a long term friend.
I am often able to remove blood by spraying straight hydrogen peroxide on the stain and blotting it, repeat as needed.
So sorry about your cat.
Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 1 tbsp. of Dawn dish soap, and fill with water. Spray area liberally and let soak for 5-10 minutes and then proceed with blotting with a clean, dry towel until stain is removed. Some carpet stain removal products can be of great benefit for combating many types of carpet stains.
