I have the same. I lightly use an emery board on top of the nail then paint. After it dries I add one or two more coats. It completely fills in the ridge. I don't like bright colors so I keep mine a very light beige (Revlon) or just a couple coats of clear.
Go to a nail salon and have a professional take care of it. Best money I ever spent.
Ridges on your nails are either due to an injury to the nail bed, or can be a sign of possible health problem. I would consult your doctor, it could be an early sign of a health condition.
Hello Jackie; Do you use your hands a lot??
I have had this happen to myself. As, I have long, strong real nails.
I work with my hands, extensively.
When this happens to me, I have normally done something to injure the nail bed.
If you have used acrylic nails, or had fake ones put on.....Please consider stopping that at once, as those take quite a toll on nails.
I hope that this helps you!! Take Care!
Might be a sign of a thyroid problem

Could be "Beau's lines." "Beau’s lines are deeply grooved horizontal ridges. The nail may be a little bit dark in appearance when you see Beau’s lines, which are caused by certain medicines, malnutrition, diabetes and other metabolic disorders or injury to the nail bed. A Beau’s line pops up when the growth of the nail has been stopped because of a medical problem. If you have this kind of ridge in your thumb nail or any nail, see your doctor." The fact that you have the same ridge of BOTH nails is a key clue.
