You probably cannot make them as cheaply as they sell this time of year. See the nursery department in your local Menards, Walmart stores. We buy them in the late summer to use to make lighted "trees" for the holidays in winter. They are no more than $5 each this time of year
Gather 6-8 ft. dead branches and form them like a teepee. Secure them at the top with twine!

Here is what I use instead of the regular tomato cages. Blue Hawk Rolled Wire Galvanized Steel Welded Wire (Common: 50-ft x 3-ft; ) ( $30 I know that's a lot) but I will reuse them every year. The regular tomato cages just don't seem to hold up as well and these keep the critters out. As you can see my tomatoes are finally dying out.
