Hello! A rubber dish drainer tray is best — it has a lip all around the edge. The tray is nice since it is waterproof and catches any inadvertent spills!
We have two dogs and I use a microfiber rug without a rubber backing but is no slip because the fibers loop on the bottom. Machine wash like a dream, I found it at IKEA.
