I think the soffits and lighting are attractive as the are. Until you redecorate, I suggest redirecting the eye by painting the backsplash a bright color, adding a small fruit or flower arrangement on the counters, and placing a small diameter arrangement with tall feathered plumes or a single amaryllis bloom. Since you have neutral ceiling, paint, floor, and cabinets, you can pick any striking color or colors to feature. Best wishes 😇
I think it looks fine as is. I would paint the same color as the ceiling to make it disappear as much as possible. But it all is a matter of personal preference.
I have lived many years with something similar to this. I ended up putting in some hooks from the soffit and hung some of my pots and pans. I have tried painting it the same as the wall but ended up liking the color the same as the ceiling.
Why disguise it? How about a collection of antique plates or family pictures colorfully framed and arranged? I think it would be nice as a display area. Wish I had as much kitchen space as you do. Mine is 9 x 9.5'.
Live with the area for now, keep the color of the walls all the same.
Yes I'm thrilled. Biggest I've had yet.
I think that unless you can make sure that no venting or pipes are running through their you can't take them down. I wouldn't bother with them but I would take the clock down because that makes your eye look up which will cause the soffit to be more noticeable. If you really want to make it look like part of the decor then pick a rich color that you want to highlight and paint the soffit all around. Just be careful the wrong color could drive you crazy. If you're planning on painting kitchen then the correct way is Anyway you want it to be. You could paint just the portion that faces into the eat in area the color of the walls but paint the inside portion of the soffit the ceiling color all the way around so it feels tall in that space yet the one side is painted to blend into the space.
