Hang from the ceiling. You can make the hanging materials as decorative or as plain as you want. If you want "invisible" use heavy duty fishing line.
I've seen this done by using wide ribbon. Attach the picture frames to the ribbon and hang in vertical strips.
String a piece of cable across the wall, and hang pictures down from that. You can adjust the height of each picture by using different lengths of chain, ribbon, wire, etc to hang them.
You could use Command Hooks. They allow you to remove the hooks without leaving any marks. Just make sure you use the proper weight hook for the item you are hanging. I have them all over my house, even outside for Christmas decorations. They work great!
