Dead grass in back yard. Want to pave the area or other idea?

You can use pavers if you don't want grass in the area. Leave some areas open and amend the soil and use those areas as planters. You can build up the plant areas with other smaller bricks or pavers that go with the others you are putting down to elevate the planting areas.

Decide on what you want to use the space for-gardening-hanging out with friends-relaxing? Now that I have retired-I have the time to spend on my backyard. I have put down a brick patio space by my back door using bricks given to me-or purchased from the ReStore-and Craigslist. I also have put down a brick path around the north and west sides of our garage. We have a large cement parking space that I want to utilize as a grilling/sitting space-putting up a pergola-moving our grill under neath and patio furniture I have. (Since we have such a large parking space and large yard-we will still have enough parking space). Since we have a lot of binding weed wherever I plant-I've given up trying to plant anything and instead am utilizing large ceramic pots-& other containers to have a container garden. Right now-you can get a lot of plants and garden materials 75% off. I have some rock/pavers/crushed rock ideas-since with these types of materials-adds interest-low maintenance-water wise-and my hubby has less lawn to mow! If you want to keep your grass-take some to your local garden extension office-they usually offer free advice and can give you the proper diagnosis to remedy. Be sure to tell them if your space is sunny-shady-etc. Good Luck and post your finished projects!

Why is the grass dead? Are you undr water restriction? What zone are you in? Have you considered Xeriscaping?

i have seen people actually use Astro turf in areas that grass doesn't grow
