Absolutely! I have one that is taking over an entire flowerbed. If you live where it snows, wait till next spring, but you can winter over in a pot. Here was one of mine before I put it in the ground.
Yes...just get a pot that is large enough to allow for growth, add some small gravel in the bottom for drainage, add good potting soil, then add the sweet potato plant. Water as needed, and make sure it is getting enough light each day. It should do great!
