I have lots of pine tree's on that part of my yard. I have put in flower beds, with some success. The yard looks drab. I love colors and live in the country. Deer tend to eat the flowers I plant

This doesn't show where you live so google "perennial flowers for shade in growing zone XYZ" XYZ is the designated growing zone where you live, which you can find out by googling it.

  You are not understanding what "growing zone" means, Tanya. It refers to your climate, etc. to know what plants are considered native and will do well at your home.
  
  Saint Pauls, NC is growing zone 8a.
  Now, you google perennial shade flowers for growing zone 8a to get:

Its difficult to say as I do not know what zone you live in do you prefer shrubs small or large?

There are lots of hostas in different shapes and colors. I have lamium under a few trees but it can get leggy. White and green leaves with purple or pink flowers.
