Vinyl plank wood-look floor versus engineered hardwood
We are building a new home and trying to decide between engineered hardwood or vinyl plank wood-look flooring. We have two kids and are wanting durability but want it... See more
first of all you need not to believe in what others say...your best way to go is with your trust in the product. these companies stand by what they sell.I have had Laminate flooring in my home for 20 years. The only reason I changed out was for a remodel in all my rooms.
I have a laminate floor in my kitchen, but I have no idea who manufactured it. However, I understand your concerns. These reviews are from an installer http://www.laminate-flooring-installed.com/quick-step-eligna-laminate-review.html
Try Shaws luxury vinyl planks. They look really good and are WATER PROOF.
I have a dog that has accidents because he is old. Of course, you have to clean it up right away. But nothing sinks in. A regular laminate floor would have been ruined by now. I've had mine two years and have one minor scratch, which was my fault.
I've had two houses with laminate flooring. Let me tell ya - the dark flooring shows every piece of lint, dog hair and dust. I have to clean it daily. As nice as it is, it still looks like fake wood. The more expensive will last longer - not chip or swell as much as the cheaper laminate. And yes, over time the boards will swell on the edges if you mop with water. I put it throughout my last house and the former owners of my current house glued it down in the kitchen and dining area. I can't wait to remove it! BTW: if you get a dog, they can't get traction on it and look pretty funny trying to run around a corner on it.
We bought a house with new laminate floors in it....and if I had my choice, I would rip out every square foot of it immediately. We are two adults with two dogs...one is 20lb and one is 8lb. Every speck of dirt, etc. shows terribly...water spots and streaks when you try to use a slightly damp mop to clean it....scratches from moving dining chairs, etc. We hate it! I would go with Vinyl planks. We had those in a previous house and absolutely loved them! 100% waterproof...and some of them even have a lifetime warranty....pricing is usually less than $3.00 per square foot and you can install it yourself with a utility knife. Or....you can come to my house and rip up all this laminate and put it in your house if you prefer! LOL :)
i would recommend tile planks that look like wood. easy to install and easy to clean. Far superior to the laminate I have now.
Vinyl plank flooring....google this and see what you think.
My vote is no laminate. I replaced beat up hardwood floors in the kitchen a couple years after I moved into my current house. Now 15 years old. Since the area is small I purchased the top of the line Ultra Premium Pergo that they sold at the time. Absolutely hate it, worst decision of my life - EVER! I purchased on recommendation. Can't express how much I dislike it. Never ever looks clean even when it is spotless. Since that time I have acquired a house full of rescue and hand me down animals from those that have passed on. 3 dogs, 6 cats, a canary and a dragon, plus the next door neighbors 3 dogs and this weekend 2 visiting dogs. And I vacuum every day and mop the kitchen floor every night. Spend the money and get hardwood. Or the new vinyl products. I am getting ready to a major overhaul on the entire house this winter and ripping that out first and will replace with hardwood or vinyl because of the pets. With kids and pets get anything but laminate.
We put in Wilson art laminate flooring and looks good after about 10 years.
We have laminate floors in parts of our house too. I don't have anything bad to say about them other than the fact that dog hair shows. We have a dog 100 Lbs and he sheds a lot. We vacuum every couple days. Now, on the good side, I love how it looks and feels OK. I looked tile planks on internet (I never heard of them) and they look really nice. Some of the wood choices are gorgeous. Good luck.
We put wood look planks in our granddaughter's playroom and it is great. Easy maintenance and we installed it ourselves. We used an Armstong product we purchased at Home Depot.
