Fruit flies love to live in flower pots that are overwatered. Check your pots.
Do you have house plants, they may be fungus gnats which lay eggs in the soil.If that is the case re-pot the plants in fresh soil
Did you use CIDER vinegar? That works for me.
They are attracted to something. I don't leave fruit out on my counter, etc.
I would hunt for the source.... I once had a client with a forgotten bag of potatoes way in the back of a cabinet. And a dropped piece of fruit behind something can be the source. Also onions turning can produce them, so if you've got a bag sitting out, chuck it.
Several drops of dish soap in wine is best. I have drowned hundreds of flies at a time this way. You have to remove ALL fruits and vegetables from any open spaces and leave them put away until the flies are all gone. Use a narrow topped glass with plastic wrap over the top and a small hole in the plastic for entry. Change it to fresh wine/soap daily until you have drowned all of the flies.
I have used very old red wine vinegar or red wine that was forgotten and went bad. I keep old ones of these to use the next year. Don't just focus on what produce you have in the house. It might be the source of the produce. You might be bringing the fruit flies home from the store/ market. Try shopping elsewhere for a while, while using your homemade traps, and see if the situation resolves itself.
wine!!
I pour boiling water down my drains and also put a little red wine in plastic container and cover with saran wrap tighten with elastic band then poke small holes with toothpick in saran. They are attracted to the wine and go in but the can't get back out.
What ever you use should be sticky like the oil but put it on something yellow, like an old plastic lid. For some reason yellow attracts them. They usually come in on bananas.
These are all good suggestions. I've had great results with apple cider vinegar as suggested in one of the previous posts. pour a small amount in a small dish, cover with plastic wrap, rubber band it to the bowl with a tight seal, and poke holes in the wrap with a tooth pick. Apple cider has a nice pungent odor that attracts the flies and once they crawl in through the holes they can't get back out.
Probably not much help here, but it is best to prevent them. (Neighbors are complaining like crazy this yr; I've had less than a dozen.) Just don't buy produce you can't refrigerate, keep items for compost heap in the fridge, avoid foods w/ vinegar.
just some cider vinegar in shallow bowl with plastic wrap on top with a few little holes in it. Works wonders. If you have fruitflies originating from your plants, you can water the plants with diluted hydroden peroxide. Only once in a while. That works very well too.
good luck.
I, too have tried all of these methods. I have no pot plants, no fruit or any other foods not kept in the refrigerator. My garbage goes straight outside. I don’t even have a trash can. these flies have not limited themselves to the kitchen or bathroom. They are worse in the bedroom. Also, they will swarm around the computer screen.
I had the sam problem. Repot your plant with new Miracle Gro potting soil after washing your pot real good. After replanted coat the top layer of soil with used coffee grounds. They do love wet soil so use a spice injector to water your plants so the top does not get wet.
