Our daughter's small bedroom needed a major overhaul, so we built her a wall-to-wall loft bed with a playhouse underneath and a reading/playing nook on top.
This custom loft bed extends from one wall to the other -- leaving room for a huge play area underneath.
On one end, we built a place for her foam Tuft & Needle mattress -- with shelves above for her books and a lamp.
On the other end, we created a play area/reading nook with a fabric-covered plywood floor -- and more raised shelves for storage.
Underneath the bed, the "walls" of her playhouse swing out into the room (on casters) so she can easily get inside.
