Call into a Thrift shop maybe they have an old headboard you could use or use the legs from..........
You can lean a headboard against the wall. You can also fasten the headboard to the frame.
Google DIY headboards and you will come up with many, many ideas that your son can choose from. Pinterest also has a lot of pictures of headboards that you can copy.
Are the pics the actual headboard? Is it a headboard from a frame? If so, it should be able to be connected directly to the bed frame, though you may need to buy the bolts, etc.
My headboard is not connected to my frame or the wall. It's got plain wood attached to raise it to the proper height and it merely leans against the wall sandwiched between the bed and wall.
He can attach it to the wall if necessary. All he needs to do is patch the holes when he's ready to move!
If I'm understanding the question, you want to make that door/panel into a headboard? You can follow step-by-step instructions for my project, here. Let me know if this helps. Cheers! http://heartworkorg.com/2012/10/25/freecycle-fridge-headboard-bedroom-redesign/
Go to dressing.com and look at the wall tapestries. Awesome..I bought the tree of life and it is amazing. They have many manly ones. You can put it up with magnet tape , stick tape to wall , will come off down the road with water, put some on back top of tapestry and voila, beauty on a budget with no worries about removing down the road.watch out though, cause it is so easy and soo cool you'll be looking at all your walls. I did mine for total $23.99, they are big ,soft ,lightweight and beautiful.
Dang spell check. It is dress Lilly, one word. Go to Pinterest for link.
If you are trying to use the 3panel door in pic. I'd paint it dark green, brown or blk depending on room colors. Then use a French Cleat to hang it. They only make small holes. Home Depot or Lowes has them.
I came across a crib, the sides of crib are the width of full bed. I hung it over bed using the adhesive Velcro strips. Instant headboard.
My headboard is not attached to anything, it is just sandwiched between the bed and wall. I glued felt by the yard to the back of it so it didn't ruin the wall.
I would screw some hooks into the end and put some eyelets in the ceiling. Then use some decorative chain to hang.
