They look like the pods for gooseberries ... we used to have them in the garden in Zambia and were called Cape Gooseberries. The pods were yellow in colour with a yellow gooseberry inside.

Chinese Lanterns
Yes, Japanese lantern plants.
Chinese Lantern
They are called Japanese Lanterns. They are a perrenial.
I'll bet there are seeds inside the pods. Cut open one of the pods and plant the seeds in a small pot. Put in a window that gets plenty of sun. By spring, you should have a viable plant.
Chinese lanterns...great for fall decor!
Thanks so much!
A perennial plant called "Chinese Lantern". Use to grow them in Michigan. A very attractive plant when in full bloom. They will spread yearly.
These are Chinese Lanterns. They are so cute but I cannot recommend planting them in your garden. They are highly invasive generating deep runners wherever they are planted. I received a peony plant from a friendās garden which included a Chinese Lantern root. That fall I had the loveliest blooms like yours on a fairly large plant. I let it go until spring when I learned how invasive it was, and ended up taking all the dirt out of that bed just to get to itās massive root system. Even after doing all that, I still had starts which I hit with Roundup. It took only one season to get rid of it but it was work. They are the cutest blooms though!
Chinese lantern it has seeds inside thereād bell shaped flower. I had one years ago I kept in a large pot.
As a kid I called them jack-o-lanterns
Chinese Lantern, a perennial.
