Free Christmas gifts and decorations! These adorable little reindeer cost nothing to make. Just gather a few sticks from your yard, drill a few holes, and glue them together.

They each come out a little different, and end up with their own unique "personalities." Make your own reindeer herd! They are so cute.

You can check out the whole project here:
Wander around your hard, and pick up some sticks. Any kind of wood will do. I used fir for the main parts, and vine maple for the antlers.

You will need these approximate sizes:
  • Body:  3″ long x 1″ diameter
  • Head:  1″ long x 3/4″ diameter
  • Legs:  2″ long x 3/8″ diameter
  • Neck:  3/4″ long x 3/8″ diameter
  • Antlers:  Skinny stick with interesting branches, ~1 1/2″ long
Drill holes in the body piece that are 3/8" - 1/4" deep for the legs and neck. Angle the leg holes outward just slightly. Not too much, or you'll have a splayed leg reindeer!
In the head piece, drill a hole for the other end of the neck.

Use a smaller bit to make holes for the antlers on the other side of the head. Again, angle them just slightly outward.
Dry fit your pieces together first, to make sure they all fit. Then use hot glue to secure them in place. You can tweak them slightly before the glue cools.
Due to different hole depths, and slightly different drilled angles, you'll probably need to trim the legs to get your reindeer to stand level.

Measure the length of the shortest leg, and trim the others to match.  Set the reindeer on a flat surface, and then trim any legs that are still a little long.
And that's all it takes to make your own herd of stick reindeer! Use them as decorations, place card holders at your Christmas table, stocking stuffers, gift toppers, and more!
