One of the holiday items I have been coveting the most are the feather covered items that range anywhere from trees to adorable reindeer and even to Santa himself, then I get sticker shock every time. I mean as cute as they are they’re not worth my hard-earned Jackson’s, so I decided this year would be my year. I WILL get my feathered trees, except on a much more modest budget of course. I decided on making my very own Feathered Holiday Trees using a foam craft cone, a bag of white feathers, and some hot glue. I just love the way the feathers move ever so slightly when you walk by them and the look can match any décor, as they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
Gather the following supplies:
1 foam craft cone
1 bag of feathers
Hot glue gun
1 bag of star ornaments
Spray paint optional
Start from the bottom of the foam cone and decide where you’re feather will line up with the bottom. If the feathers go a little over don’t worry as the bottom will be trimmed when done. Depending on the size of your feathers you may want to cut them in half to allow more even layers.

Place a line of hot glue from the tip of the feather to 2/3 of the way towards the tail end. Carefully push your feather into place as the hot glue may seep through.
Overlapping your feathers slightly work your way all of the way around the bottom. When you start the next row up over lap your feathers 1/3 of the way to fill any gaps.

Once you have glued all of your feathers in place, so none of the foam is showing, add feathers on top of any of the sections where the feather middle line was too thick and shows more.

Add a dot of hot glue in the middle of the very top of the foam. Working quickly, you will then press your star topper into the glue to secure it in place. Take one of the small wispy sections of a feather and glue the top of the foam surrounding the star. The feather will then be pressed into the glue, so no foam is seen.

Trim the bottom feathers with scissors as needed.

You can then leave the tree as is or spray paint it to add a bit of sparkly. Just be aware if you use spray paint the feathers will become stiff versus the movement in the original.
Here you have it folks! I could not be more delighted in the way these came out. You could even omit the star all together and keep them out year-round!
