My car battery died while we were camping, but changing it was pretty simple! The hardest part was the trip to Walmart.

Begin to remove the battery by loosening/removing any bolts that hold the battery in place.
Then loosen the battery terminals, which may require a socket wrench.
Remove the terminals from the battery.
Remove the old battery. Take note of the battery type when purchasing a new one.
Add the new battery.
Attach the terminals to the new battery. Be sure to connect the positive terminal (red) to the positive post, and the negative terminal (black) to the negative post.
Tighten the terminals with a socket wrench.
Don't forget to reinstall/tighten any bolts that hold the battery in place.
Hold in the car and try to start it up!

Super, Super Tutorial! One thing to remember is that on a lot of the electronics in newer cars like radio, Navi, power windows, power locks, power seats, sun/moon roof, have a memory and it can be lost when a battery is removed. A lot of repair shops use temporary voltage before removing a battery so it won't get lost.
