My "tried & true answer:" Magic Eraser! I hope it works for you. I resort to this in so many things I have to clean.
What is your bathroom floor made of? That makes a very big difference. If it's any kind of vinyl or synthetic, you may not be able to do anything. Synthetics have a tendency to yellow over a period of time. It sounds like your rubber bath mat may have helped in speeding up that process. Send us a little more info and someone may have a more specific answer.
