I have those dated scalloped awnings but cant afford to change them. Has anyone tried to cut the scalloped part off or is that even an option?

Help!!

They should be able to be removed as they are generally an added extra.

Why not? They are your awnings. That seems like a lot of trouble. Maybe you could clean and paint them. But whatever you do, document it with photos and descriptions. Then Post on Hometalk.com. Best wishes ☺️

You should be able to cut them, but do it on the ground (so take them down first). Also, wear eye protection! And here's another helpful link:

hmm, if there is another color that would go with the existing awning, you could just take it down and sew a strip over the scalloped part. It would give your new edging more support and you could tack the two together so it doesn't look . . . tacky . . . in a breeze.

What did you end up doing?

The undressed (seamed) ends of cut sheetmetal are unsightly and wickedly sharp. Consider a multi-color or change in paint color. This will on the one-hand make a more vibrant pattern, and on the other, make a more uniform look which may hide the scalloped detail as it blends with surrounding color.

If you have an old hand file you could sand those edges down.

  • You should be able to, but remove the awning first for safety reasons.

They should be a separate thing and be able to be taken off.
