I wouldn't use foam board. After a while, it will bend !
While I agree with JCB, you might try one of the big box hardware stores. Ask for builders foam, as it is much sturdier than regular Styrofoam. I don't think it comes in white; I've only seen it in blue and pink. It can be cut with a power saw, carved, and painted.
I agree with jcb. Go with something stronger. A old piece of plywood or particle board would work.
You could use pins to secure. Or have you looked for used headboard in thrift shop, Craigs List etc?
You can buy foam core in 4'x8' sheets at Tap Plastics, usually wholesale designer warehouses, but its only like 3/8" thick..... you could instead buy rigid foam insulation that is an inch to 2 inches thick in 4'x8' sheets at Home Depot.... https://www.homedepot.com/p/R-Tech-2-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-R-7-7-Rigid-Foam-Insulation-310891/202532856?MERCH=REC-_-PIPHorizontal1_rr-_-100572981-_-202532856-_-N To adhere fabric to it, I would buy a can of 3M spray adhesive. To apply it to the wall I would buy double-sided foam tape.
