Tomatoe need a pot that is a min. Of 12 inches tall, and it needs to hold 5 gallon of potting mix. They do best when supported by a trellis, pole or cage. use a worn out tee shirt cut in to strips to secure them to the support devise. It has just enough give the plants will be supported and not damaged. There are 2 types of tomatoes...determinate varieties ripen with in a certain time frame, and all at once. Great for canning or preseraving. Indeterminate varieties can’t make up thier mind when they will ripen...you will have tomatoes until a hard freeze hits. You can harvest the green ones, and they may ripen a bit on your window sill. I happen to like green tomatoes dipped in tempura batter and fried.
seed companies have started to mark certain seed packages as container friendly. There are also many potting mix recipes on the internet. Janet p. Shared a potting mix recipe ...equal parts top soil, peat, compost, pearl lite or vermiculite. It’s worked well for me.
