How do I get flowers out of an Orchid faster?

I was given an Orchid as a gift. It was beautiful. Once the flowers died, it seemed like it took forever to bring out new ones. The new stem did not start until about 2 months later....How do I get it to flower more frequently. It seems to like the window it is in and I only water it once a week. First, is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

In between flowerings, it will need to rest. Feed when starting to bud. The flowers usually last about 1 month. If you want it to flower all the time, then you will need to buy a good artificial plant, or do what I do, when it is not flowering I place and artificial orchid stem into the soil and know one suspects it's not real............
