Mint will take over your yard. You will then have 2 problems. If you MUST plant it, plant it in a pot, then put the pot in the ground - to contain the roots. I made the mistake and planted it - now a few times a year, all I do it pull it out!
I shouldn't think so as they dye down in the winter. You would need something to keep them out such as Tall Fence or Prickly plant Hedge....
