I would like to know how to get rid those pesty little sink/drain flies. I've tried baking soda and vinegar, drain cleaners and put plastic over the drains.
They are fruit flies, check out his link https://www.ctvnews.ca/5things/expert-advice-5-ways-to-get-rid-of-annoying-fruit-flies-1.2492904
For fruit flies place bowls of apple cider vinegar veered with saran wrap and poke holes in it...If you have house plants they are fungus gnats which you have to repot the plants in fresh soil to get rid of them
Vinegar in a jar, with a drop or two dish liquid
Wash any fruits or vegetables that you keep out on the counter. Check where you keep your potatoes or onions and make sure they are not in with them. They like to hang out in the sink drains, so put some boiling water down the drains to instantly get rid of the ones down in the drain, so repeat it until you know the problem is over. If you have a lot of them a fly strip, although unattractive, will help get rid of a lot of them. Do not put any thin skinned fruits or vegetables out in the kitchen, as they will lay their eggs in them. Keep using the vinegar/dish soap until they are gone.
They are probably fruit flies. Keep all fruit put away in tight containers or the refrigerator. Then spray all the drains, especially in the kitchen with Simple Green. It is nontoxic for people/animals, but kills any bug. I even shot a house fly (big) with it one time and it died! You can get it at Menards in soap area of detergents etc. or in Walmart in the boat/auto/sports section. It comes in both concentrate and reg. strength spray bottles. We keep both in our home as it is cheaper to use it 1 part Simple Green to 8 parts water from the concentrate. Anyway, spray the sink drains several squirts every day for a week to ten days. After that spray once a week because you will bring more in your home on fruit, vegetables, etc from the stores. They live in the drains of the sinks, but spray ALL drains in the house.
The adult flies only have about a 3-5 day life span. As old school as it seems, fly strips will get rid of them in about a week. There will be some in each stage of life, so 7-9 days will usually be adequate. Then you can remove the ugly fly strips.
many thanks i use fly strips they work great but not always i am thinking of use a glass jar with a small hole in the lid with a 1" of corn syrup with a piece of rotting fruit in it. thinking once they get in the bottle thats where they will die
thank you
