If the concrete is older, you might want to check out concrete paint, since it will give you better coverage in case there are stains or perhaps patches. I've had great results with the Sherman Williams brand. I have also taped a pattern off before painting that in the end everyone thought it was a tile patio. This stuff is not your old school shiny paint, you can get it with a slight texture so if your concrete gets wet like mine did, it won't be slippery.
You can always purchase an inexpensive outdoor rug! They are plentiful in the spring at places like At Home or Tuesday Morning. Color... with no commitment!
