How do I update/resurface my faux butcher block countertop?
Can you post a photo? I would suggest reworking the stencil and call it a day and give in on this item. Next time something comes up it is his time to concede. Marriage is give and take and compromise. I always let him win the little battles so when it came to bigger issues, I dug my heels in and won the war - pick and choose carefully . . . Let him have this - now you want new living and dining room furniture - wink wink!!!
You could refinish it. That way, the chest of drawers stays, but is updated!
Is he also attached to the Teddy Bear? If you can get him past the Teddy Bear, you can paint the dresser to bring it up to date.... or you can look for some method to remove the stencil and then bring the chest of drawer back to their original glory..... And you can let him pick out new drawer pulls to compensate for the Teddy coming off the dresser.
Take a picture of it for a good memory for him; then redo it so it fits in.....unless, you think it could be repurposed in a child's room. Is he nostalgic or just doesn't want to spend the money to replace. Guess that figures into the answer. :)
Just changed the pulls off an old dresser and what a difference. Maybe tape off dresser. Tape around bear, paint inside tape and over bear then match tapped area on opposite side
