Annuals - Geranium Plant for just this season. Perennials - Plants that come up every year Poppies -
Annuals (marigolds, petunias, zinnias) need to be replanted every spring, perennials (dianthus, day lillies, hostas) come back up each spring without replanting.
The definitions apply if you leave your annuals outdoors but if you have in planters like my geraniums and impatients and bring them inside, with a little care they will live all year long
Annuals flower for entire season, Petunias for example, and u have to plant them every year. Perennials come back every year on their own, but only flower at certain times and usually only once in the season.
Perennials come back on their own, but annuals are a yearly purchase. A good example of a annual is(my mom's favorite) the sunflower.
An annual lives it's life in one season like petunias. Perennials live indefinitely such as peonies, daylilies, clematis, black eyed susan, liatris etc.
