Actually, they are large enough that you could store staples in that the bugs like to get into. Clean them out real well and they would do good for rice, pasta, extra flour, sugar or pancake mix, a lot of things.
How will the detergent residue affect the food? Will washing it out be enough? Or maybe use zip lock bags, then place items in the container? It does sound like a good idea.
Buy some thin rope and glue it onto the tub and drill a few holes in the bottom and make a pot plant holder
Can also use it as a yarn bowl. If you knit or crochet your yarn rolls all over the place, place it in the container. Cut a hole on top or out of the side. Pull end of yarn through the hole and get busy creating your masterpiece.
Greatly appreciate your feedback. We have several of these containers. We also have plastic litter containers that are collecting dust on our porch. Naturally we use them for bag litter, etc., salt for icy places too.
I have a lot of dishwasher tab jars similar to these that are squared. My husband uses them for nails, screws , glues, paint brushes and tapes in the garage. I have buttons and trims in some of them. Mine are blue, but I like the clear ones.
If u have kids they could be decorated for Halloween treat bags and Easter baskets.
You could use an exacto knife to cut out some square "windows" in the sides, and then paint the container black or silver. Then add a wire handle to the top and a flameless outdoor candle and you would have an inexpensive outdoor lantern (or indoor if you prefer).
