Had Pergo and ripped it out and installing hardwood. You can purchase unfinished hardwood and have stained to your desired color. That is my vote!
we tore out our engineered hardwood floor due to dog damage (when we bought that floor we had no dogs. Then we got to English springer spaniels). Now we have waterproof, luxury vinyl plank floors that are gorgeous.
The vinyl plank is supposed to be easy to install, the ones I am looking at have the padding on it and you only need three inexpensive tools to install it. If your floors are in good shape and level, you can install it on top of your hardwood, that is what we plan to do. Our four dogs are too hard on the finish of the hardwood.
It depends on your budget. Hardwood floors are expensive however you can stain them however you wish. Manufactured hardwood floors are also very nice and not that expensive. There are a variety of colors available. One thing to consider is the thickness. Also in all cases, the darker the floor, the more noticeable any scratches will show. I would recommend staying in a neutral shade for your floors. Good luck.
Beautiful old rug but looks like it really needs a good cleaning as the dirt will destroy the fibers, and maybe have them add a stain resistant finish on it.
Pergo is engineered hardwood. If you like your existing floor, get real hardwood and have the guy match the stain, my paint guy did an excellent job matching the stain on patches for my really old cedar after a fireplace removal.
Bluey/grey slate look or Light/Medium wood look............
research vinyl planking that is now the number one selling floating floor
Engineered hardwood is by far the most durable and stable product. Voice of experience here...
Vinyl planking can be used anywhere
Love vinyl plank
High quality luxury vinyl plank has great visuals now! Most luxury vinyl plank is imported from China, and there are two kinds of LVP: WPC and SPC.
These stand for Wood Composite Core and Solid Polymer Core. If you want to learn more of the technical side of luxury vinyl plank I encourage you read this blog all about what LVP is and what its made of: https://www.reallycheapfloors.com/blog/what-is-luxury-vinyl-plank-flooring/
SPC is a more stable, durable, and dent resistant vinyl plank than WPC.
If you get an aluminum oxide wear layer(in blog) LVP floor, you'll find that it can last longer than hardwood floors. There will be less signs of wear and its more resistant to scratching and denting than wood.
The only downside I can think of is the housing market evaluation isn't widely favoring lvp yet. Your home will most likely increase in value from hardwood floors for the next 5-10 years. If you plan on selling your home in the near future, I would hold off on luxury vinyl plank.
LVP used to be known as more durable and uglier than hardwood floors. Now LVP caught up in the textured and high quality visuals department. I hope my answer helped Catherine. I marked out the name and pricing in the photo because I'm not selling this, its just a nice weathered look that's really in-trend these days.
