Most moss grows on North facing areas. It loves shade and dampness. Look around the area to see what might be causing it. I needed to remove a few limbs from my huge red oak tree. Now there is light and the moss has disappeared. Otherwise check with your local nursery. They are generally very helpful and many have a passion for their profession. You’ll get some good tips.
I use Lily Miller Moss Out in the granules applied with a lawn spreader. Then a week later when it turns black, I rake it out of the lawn. Reapply if needed. Then I usually follow up a week or two later with Weed n Feed to bring the grass back thick. Then also make it in a liquid hose attachment bottle which I use on the concrete stairs.
Oh an then to make the lawn better, make sure to remove the thatch from the lawn by using a bag on the mower, and de-thatch in the fall - you can rent a machine or buy a blade for your mower. You make also need to aerated the lawn to improve drainage, you can rent these machines too at an equipment rental shop.
