I have a wooden trunk filled with plastic (labeled!) shoe boxes of craft items.
I went to Dollar store and got small shoe size clear containers depending on size needed and make sure they size up to be stackable. Label end of box describing item in them. Stack in closet, under bed, on book shelf and even in cabinets.
