do you have a attic
Do you have an attic? A garage? or a storage building? You can buy a small storage building at HD or get a rubber maid one. If not under bed storage. Buy bed lifts to utilize all the storage under the beds.
There are so many neat ideas to organize nowadays! The best part is, the majority of the items you will need, you can get at your local dollar store. Have fun with it, and save $$$$.
While going through your house, see what you might be able to purge. Chances are this will turn into a whole house reorganization project. Hopefully you have a few weeks to accomplish this goal. If you have a garage, reorganize it too, and stuff as much as you can out there. Just know it is temporary, and you are doing the right thing for your family.
As a last resort, think about renting a storage unit or pod. Monthly rent and insurance can add up, so if you go this route, make sure it is worth that cost.
See if these help.

Set up lots of shelving in the rooms they will be in. Bed linens, pillows, extra towels, seasonal clothes, etc. that they will not be using, get the bags that you vacuum down, it really does reduce the space they take up. Store them under beds. The underbed boxes can hold a lot, especially if you put risers on the beds. Put up extra shelves in all your closets for things not being used. If your garage doesn't have leaks, put down pallets and store a lot of things in Rubbermaid bins and stack them in there. Even an outside storage room in the back yard can hold a lot of there things and they will be easily assessable as long as they labeled. I hope some of these ideas help! Good luck, been there, done that!
Having a garage is golden esp, if you can devote it to storage, and not cars. Why not empty completely any bedrooms you will now be giving to your son's family. Store the things in the garage that would normally furnish those rooms. Oh one thing we have overlooked is, what is happening to your son's family's household (not personal) but household furnishings?
If you have a garage there are racks that attach to the ceiling over the car that hold plastic tubs. I have shelves in my guest room closet to hold storage tubs instead of clothes rods. Most guests bring few clothes and they can always use another are. Good luck!
