1/2 teaspoon dishwashing liquid,1 cp peroxide fill bootle with water. Mix use a 1/2 cp with your laundry detergent.
Sheets come out with. I haven't used bleach on my white clothes in years
I like Oxyclean for whitening almost anything. I don't use bleach either.
If your sheets are yellow-dingy, you may be using too much bleach. Sweat is the main cause of dinginess and the oils in sweat react with bleach to make fabric yellowish. Oils can be tricky to get out of fabrics especially those with polyester in them.
Use hot water to wash. Add 1/4 cup of borax during the wash cycle. Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Hang your sheets on a clothesline if you can because sunlight bleaches naturally. If all else fails the old style "bluing" subtly dies your whites just enough to fool the eye. Mrs Stewart's Bluing is primarily a superfine blue iron powder suspended in water. http://mrsstewart.com/purpose-of-bluing/
Agreed, Oxyclean for whites works very well. You might try soaking overnight, draining and running machine again. If you have individual stained spots, Clorox Bleach Pen is fabulous for them.

I've had success brightening whites with lemon juice. You do want to check the fabric first to make sure you won't be adding stain 'spots' with the lemon juice!
I use 1/3 bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide for a full load when washing my whites. Bleach will make clothes dingy and breaks down the fibers. Most oxygen based detergents are peroxide based.
I have used bleach for all my life, but very small amounts and I live in an area where we have "soft" water. I also hang my laundry out in the nice weather.
