How do I get rid of the weeds and grass next to my privacy fence ?

I don't want to harm my dog or the fence while getting rid of the weeds and grass.

Smother them out with newspaper ,cardboard and heavy landscape fabric
ON a very hot day when it has been dry and rain is NOT predicted, pour 5% white vinegar along the fence line.
Boiling water, Epsom salt and boiling water or vinegar. Will need to be reapplied as grass springs up in the future. Takes just a few minutes.
Plant killer: this will kill any green plant. 1 gallon vinegar, 2 cups epsom salts, 1/3 Dawn dish soap (blue kind) spray early in morning after dew has evaporated, by evening weeds dead.
Forgot to say the recipe kills grass too, I know that was your concern, but it kills any plant.
I use roundup weed killer. Don’t do it before a rain.
