Dandelions are good eating! If you are not into that, kill it off and start over. My yard became full of crabgrass. I killed it off with vinegar, gardener used a sod cutter to remove old lawn, tilled and prepared the soil and reseeded.
There are weed killers that will kill the weeds and leave the grass that you could use right now, but with all the flowers you have right now, you may need to treat again. Next spring, use a weed and feed and it may prevent them for a while until the neighbors seeds fly into your yard. If you notice them before they flower, hit them with the spray and they will be gone before they flower and spread more.
There is a tool with a two pronged end and slightly curved that can be used to dig out each one. The other is to use a dandelion treatment that will kill them off by increasing their growth and allowing them to die.
Use Orthos Weed b gone for dandelions and follow a regular fertilizer program for you area to get a healthy lawn
Have you considered something like Scotts Weed and Feed?
I agree with many of the replies to your question. If your as busy as most of us, you don't have the time for the time consuming, back breaking chore of removing dandelions, one at a time. Not to mention, that if you dont get the whole root, it's all for not. Use the Weed and Feed or Weed N Gone.
I would avoid using chemicals as a first attempt. Why not just get one of the stand up dandelion remover tools. On The Yard and Garden there's a few good one's available online. Just make sure its a tool you can use standing like Fiskars or the Yard Butler dandelion remover.
Hope this helps
