Let them soak in ketchup and then scrub them with a toothbrush.
Either solution is good, or maybe white toothpaste.

Wash in a pan of water and a cup of white vinegar and a squirt of Dawn. Swish the pennies around, and let them sit for 20-30 minutes. Use a big strainer to rinse all the pennies. Then use something like a big, old towel. Start drying the pennies, tossing them on another towel so they can dry more, and toss the pennies that don’t shine up into another pile for rewashing or tossing. Unless you find a valuable penny, the old pennies are still just worth a penny. If you want to use the pennies in a project like making a tabletop, you can buy new or mixed pennies in about any bank. I hope you find a special coin or two! ☺️
