Maybe buy the old fashioned one with a hook tin opener and a corkscrew combined.

I have a Black and Decker right now but it doesn't always grab the lid when I try to use it. Think they are all trash. Either buy a cheap one and see if it works or invest some money and hope it is better. Wish I could be more encouraging.
I like the ones you put on top so the edges won't cut you. I can't stand the pitch of an electric battery opener. A funny for you. I went to my sister in laws house to cook in 1999. She had canned food everywhere.I mean, the end of the world was coming according to her. I asked where she kept her can opener and she pointed to an electric one. When I asked how she was going to access these cans with no power she got mad and all I could do was laugh. She got handhelds from me for Christmas, just in case.
EZ-DUZ-IT model is great and it is made in the USA! I have been using this kind for years.
